The NIC Information Center is a resource for those working in the field of corrections, and the assistance it provides (searching the library, locating resources, and providing referrals) is available at no cost. The NIC Library has over 18,000 corrections-related items.

The Information Center uses a Web-based help desk to track and respond to inquiries from NIC staff and the field. These inquires are reviewed regularly by Information Center staff and each question is assigned to the librarian or information specialist most capable of finding the best answer.

The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) offers comprehensive partnership training programs that are designed to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of correctional agencies. These programs are aimed at promoting collaboration and teamwork among correctional professionals, as well as providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively address the challenges and demands of the corrections field. Through visits by our specialists, correctional agencies can build meaningful partnerships with other stakeholders, including law enforcement, community organizations, and government agencies, to achieve common goals such as reducing recidivism and promoting public safety. NIC's partnership training programs are delivered by experienced trainers and subject matter experts, and are tailored to meet the unique needs of each participating agency.

Indian Country relies on corrections as a cornerstone of its justice system, including tribal courts, probation, and law enforcement. Jails play a crucial role in public safety and reducing recidivism, and both tribes and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are responsible for jail administration.
The goal of this project is to encourage criminal justice educators to recognize the importance of developing curriculum specific to community supervision, distinct from institutional corrections, and to provide support to college educators and community corrections practitioners who teach community corrections courses.
Juvenile detention populations have significantly reduced due to reforms in the industry. The reforms focus on improved screening, community-based alternatives, and expansion of programs for at-risk youth, with only the most dangerous youth in custody.
