The Jail System

Florida has 67 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 104 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 52,430 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Florida prison population was 101,424. In Fiscal Year 2015-16, the Florida Department of Corrections operated 149 facilities and employed nearly 22,000 people.

The Jail System

Delaware has 3 counties. Due to Delaware's combined jail prison system, there are no locally operated jails.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Delaware prison population was 6,654. The Bureau of Prisons oversees four adult correctional facilities and several specialized units.

The Community Corrections System

The Bureau of Community Corrections within the Delaware Department of Correction supervised approximately 17,000 probationers and parolees as of June 30, 2015.

The Jail System

Connecticut has 8 counties. Due to Connecticut's combined jail-prison system, there are no locally operated jails.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Connecticut prison population was 15,816. The Connecticut Department of Correction operates a combined jail-prison system which housed approximately 16,023 offenders as of June 30, 2015. There are 15 correctional facilities and 5 parole and community services offices.

The Jail System

Colorado has 64 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 60 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 11,660 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Colorado prison population was 20,168. The Colorado Department of Corrections operates 20 public and three private facilities. The projected employee count for FY 2016-17 is 6,242.

The Jail System

California has 58 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 149 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 82,220 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the California prison population was 129,593. The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation manages 35 adult institutions and 4 youth facilities. The Department's projected budget in for 2016-17 is $10.6 billion.

The Jail System

Arkansas has 75 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 74 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 8,610 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Arkansas prison population was 17,707. In FY2015, the Arkansas Department of Corrections operating expenditures were $337 million.

The Community Corrections System

The Department of Community Correction supervised 23,518 parolees and 30,547 probationers during FY2016.

The Jail System

Arizona has 15 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 36 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 13,970 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Arizona prison population was 42,719. In FY2016, there were approximately 9,800 employees in the Department of Corrections. The estimated budget for FY2015 was $1.186 billion.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2015, Arizona had 7,379 parolees. In July, 2016, the Arizona probation population was 84,766.

The Jail System

This state has 19 boroughs plus 10 geographical census areas and a combined prison-jail system except for 15 locally operated jails. Local jails had a population of 64 inmates in 2013.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Alaska prison population was 5,338. The operating budget for FY2015 was $333,847.

The Community Corrections System

As of June 30, 2015, the Alaska DOC Division of Probation & Parole supervised 5,418 probationers and parolees out of 13 offices.

The Jail System

Alabama has 67 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 110 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 15,580 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Alabama prison population was 30,810. In FY2015, the Alabama Department of Corrections employed a staff of 3,783 in 16 major correctional facilities and 12 community-based facilities. Expenditures for FY2015 totaled $457 million.

The Jail System

West Virginia has 55 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 10 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 4,027 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the West Virginia prison population was 7,118. The West Virginia Division of Corrections operates 16 facilities. The agency expenditures for FY 2016 was $195 million. The average daily cost per inmate was $75.85.

The Community Corrections System

As of Dec. 31, 2015, there were 7,008 adults on probation and 3,123 adults on parole.
