The Prison System and The Jail System
Connecticut has a unified system which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of State of Connecticut correctional authorities was 5,607 located in 16 state facilities and held in the custody of private prisons. The Connecticut Department of Corrections had a budget of $687,788,601.
