This Chicago Police Department general order establishes policies for interactions with TIGN individuals regarding their safety. It also defines terms pertaining to processing and establishes procedures for processing TIGN individuals.
“The purpose of this standard operating procedure (SOP) is to establish guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment, management, and placement of offenders diagnosed with gender identity disorder (GID) to ensure offender safety and access to appropriate and necessary medical and mental health treatment. This SOP defines the extent and general limits of healthcare services provided to offenders identified as meeting the criteria for diagnosis of GID as outlined within the most current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)” (p. 3).
