Colorado has 60 jails in 64 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 13,000.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Colorado correctional authorities was 17,168  located in 21 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Colorado operated facilities had a staff of 6,311 employees and a budget of $995,500,000.

The Jail System

California has 62 jails in 58 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 62,581.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of California correctional authorities was 97,608 located in 34 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. California operated facilities had a staff of 64,793 employees and a budget of $14.2 billion.

The Jail System

Arkansas has 76 jails in 75 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 9,938.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Arkansas correctional authorities was 17,625 located in 34 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Arkansas operated facilities had a staff of 3,095 employees and a budget of $365,782,232.

Mississippi has 81 jails in 82 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 13,438.

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Mississippi correctional authorities was 19,802 located in 21 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a budget of $154,401,559.

Minnesota has 78 jails in 87 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 5,320.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Minnesota correctional authorities was 8,636 located in 11 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 4,126 employees and a budget of $538,812,000

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Arizona correctional authorities was 33,865 located in 9 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 13,334 employees and a budget of $13,981,335,00.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2022, Arizona community corrections population was 73,100 under probation and 6,640 under parole.

Michigan has 81 jails in 83 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 12,494.

The Jail and Prison System

Alaska has a unified system which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

As of December 31, 2022, Alaska has 19 boroughs plus 10 geographical census areas.

Massachusetts has 13 jails in 14 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 6,732.

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Massachusetts correctional authorities was 6,001 located in 13 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 5,188 employees and a budget of $745,385,808.

Maryland has 24 jails in 24 counties. The jail population in 2022 was 8,193.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Maryland correctional authorities was 15,637 located in 13 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 9,251 employees and a budget of $294,616,792.
